Well, here we are. Forty years removed from those carefree high school days. The old adage says that life begins at 40. Well, in a sense we are all now 40 years old and here's to our new lives just beginning!
It's been a long, strange trip (with apologies to the Grateful Dead), with a variety of peaks and valleys along the way. Hopefully the peaks far outweigh the valleys and any valleys have been shallow. And hopefully those peaks will become more frequent and grow just a wee bit higher as we move forward.
We gather today at our 40 year class reunion to renew old friendships, to remember old friendship interrupted by that thing called life, and, with any luck, make some new and lasting friendships. We stop to remember those classmates who are no longer with us. We pause to think of those classmates who are unable to attend due to illness or some other misfortune. We send our collective best wishes and concerns to those classmates who are less fortunate than ourselves.
We do these things because we are more than just classmates. We are friends. We are family. We gather for these reunions because we care about each other. Obviously since the day we walked off that stage with our diplomas in hand, we have all been onwildly divergent paths, spreading us from coast to coast (and beyond in some cases). We have been busy for the last forty years raising children (and now perhaps grandchildren), building careers, meeting new people and making new friends,
And in the end, isn't that what it's all about? Friendship? So welcome back, my friends, to the show that never ends...or at least we hope it doesn't end anytime soon. We're at 40 this year. I look forward to 50....and beyond.
Thank you for coming tonight to this reunion. To those classmates - friends - unable to attend this reunion, make sure you put the next reunion on your calendars now so you don't miss out.
Happy 40 Year Reunion to one and all. Now get out there and enjoy yourselves. That's an order!!
Hello Class of '74 Crockett Cougars:
Well, here we are again. It almost doesn't seem possible that it's already been 5 short (long?) years since our last high school reunion and now our 40 - FORTY!!! - year reunion is upon us. Here are the details for the upcoming 40 year class reunion:
Date: Saturday, May 17, 2014
Time: 6:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Where: Twelve Oaks Ranch
Directions: Map & Directions
Head West on Ben White. (US 290/71).
At the 290/71 split in Oak Hill, take US 290W for 5 miles.
Turn right (north) on Fitzhugh Road.
Follow Fitzhugh for 5 miles to Trautwein Road.
12 Oaks Ranch is located on the right-hand side at the intersection of Fitzhugh & Trautwein.
At this website you can find all information about the reunion. You can also pay your reunion registration fees via PayPal at this website (see the upper right-hand corner of the front page of the site). Additionally, you can also register your email address and receive notifications as updates are made to the website.
There is also a Facebook site where you can find information about the 35 year reunion as well as connect to many fellow Class of 1974 classmates. The Facebook group is at https://www.facebook.com/groups/590663714310110/
If you should still be unfamiliar with Facebook, you will need to create an account – it is absolutely free – in order to access the Crockett Class of ’74 page as well as connect with many of your classmates.
We are trying hard to keep costs for this reunion as low as possible. The reunion registration fee is $45 per person ($65 per couple) and that fee includes a BBQ dinner and soft drinks/water/ice.
While pre-event registration is open through May 10, it is important that you register as early as possible as we are required to submit a full head count to the caterers by May 12. If you should decide after that May 10 deadline that you want to attend the reunion, you will be able to pay at the door.
In past years we have made it possible for you to order a directory if you couldn't or chose not to attend the reunion. This time around, though, the directory will be posted strictly online (at this website). By posting the directory online only, it helps us to keep the reunion registration costs as low as possible.
This will be a BYOB event. We will provide ice and soft drinks but you will need to bring your own alcoholic beverages. Please be aware, too, that we had to negotiate with the owners of the facility to allow alcohol. It is imperative that everyone be very responsible drinkers on the night of the reunion. If anyone should become unruly due to alcohol consumption, the owners of the facility will ask that person to leave the property.
If you do not have access to the Internet and need directions/map for the Twelve Oaks Ranch facility, please contact any of the reunion committee members for assistance. The members of the committee, along with contact information, are listed at the website, http://www.crockett74.com
We would ask your help, too, in tracking down missing classmates. A list of missing – or misplaced – classmates can be found at the Crockett74 website. If you are able to do so, please take a look at the list of missing classmates and let us know if you have any contact information regarding the whereabouts of any of these people.
Also, if you are aware of any classmate deaths since the last reunion, please share that information with us so that we can include those people in our In Memoriam section of the directory (at the website you will also find a list of all known deceased classmates).
Please feel free to share this information with any and all other classmates and also please provide us with contact information for any classmates you feel may need to have their contact information updated.
We sincerely hope you will be attending this 40 year class reunion. We look forward to seeing you there
